School time

During our summer Community Days children are invited to visit our single room schoolhouse where Miss Patti takes centre stage as schoolmistress.

After the morning bell has rung the visiting children will be given a quick reminder of the ‘School Rules’. Once these rather stringent guidelines are explained the horrified pupils will find relief in the stories, songs with puppets, nature crafts, reading, writing, and arithmetic. At recess families often bring picnic lunches and the children get a chance to blow off steam playing outdoor games such as Tag, RedLight/Green Light and Duck Duck Goose to name but a few.

At the end of the day the children will have learned about school life in the 1880’s and will likely have a better appreciation for the schools they attend today.  It’s a day of laughter, wide-eyed attention and happy memories for all who attend.

The school day program runs on Wednesdays from the first week of July to the last week of August.
